Ex collection: Asbjorn Lunde
Asbjorn Lunde (1927-2017) was born in New York City, to Norwegian immigrant parents. Like his brother, the renowned art historian Karl Lunde, he had a passion for culture since childhood. As a successful lawyer, he travelled extensively and was a well-known connoisseur in museums and art galleries across America and Europe. He was a lifelong supporter of several of these institutions, from the Metropolitan Museum of Art to the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute, his two hometown favorites. Armed with his keen and tireless eye, curiosity and energy, and remarkable memory, Asbjorn Lunde built up a collection of Old Master paintings and 19th century mountain landscapes that reflects his evolving taste and connoisseurship.
His remarkable collection is a reflection of this erudite, curious and passionate man. Asbjorn Lunde’s insatiable appetite for collecting, along with his passion for travel, led him to take an interest in French and Italian sculpture, Asian decorative arts, and South Asian painting and sculpture.
