ABOUT Testolini and Salviati : From ATENEO VENETO – 15/1 (2016)
The company was founded in 1847, resulting in its oldest and longest activity in the artistic furniture sector of the Venetian lagoon capital, with activity lasting for almost a century. It would establish and strengthen its position in the market in a long period of cultural and productive turmoil , due to the stagnation of the fiscal pressure of the Austro-Hungarian government in the mid-nineteenth century, as well as the major economic facilitations then obtained with the annexation of Venice to the Kingdom of Italy
The reputation of the company also grew thanks to the partnership enshrined in the law with Antonio Salviati, founded in London in 1866 by Antonio Salviati, Sir Austen diplomat Henry Layard and historian William Drake
Such association continued even when Antonio Salviati, who had changed his social name in Salviati, decided to liquidate the member from whom he was renamed CVM (Compagnia Venezia Murano), and so that AntonioSalviati founded a new business totally in his name. If this created a fracture between Antonio Salviati and the former English members, it was not for the texts that caused concern, which in fact saw duplication of orders, furnishing furniture and decorative objects both to the CVM and to the company of Antonio Salviati
This bond was strengthened in 1896, when for a period of economic stagnation the Salviati, Testolini, Jesurum and other smaller companies operating in Venice decided to merge under the names Salviati Jesurum & Co.
