Work in the style of Gabriel Viardot: French cabinetmaker, Gabriel Viardot very quickly became interested in Japonism, an artistic movement popular at his time. He will be one of the first to make it his specialty: Maison Viardot will produce furniture in Chinese or Japanese styles, adapted to European tastes and while including ornaments truly from Asia (lacquer panels, etc.) .
This mixture brings to Viardot’s creations a preciousness and luxury very popular at the time: it will meet with great success during the Universal Exhibitions, a success that is still current due to the extremely decorative nature of the pieces.
