Pouf / footrest / ottoman / side stool. Its dimensions also allow it to be used as a side table.
The pouf is covered by Bargello Flame Stitch Patterned Fabric: This is a type of needlepoint embroidery consisting of straight flat stitches arranged in a mathematical pattern to create designs. This name is said to come from a series of chairs found in the Bargello Palace in Florence, Italy, which have a “flame point” pattern. It is also called Florentine. This motif is timeless and has been found since the Renaissance.
The base is turned into a baluster, in the purely Louis XIII style. The velvet fabric is of very good quality. Upholstery nails on the contour and corners.
France – circa 1700 – Late 17th century / early 18th century.
