The vertical form of the Tephra Sculpture 001 comes from the study of plants’ anatomy, revealing an unexpected complexity of botanic forms that symbolise nature’s creativity.
The sewing, bending and welding interlaced with the sublime fragility of flowers are blended, and in fact muted, by the rigidity of the industrial metallisation process. Cocooned by streams of liquified metal and finished by hand to achieve a polished or matte texture, the sculptures, reminiscent of monochrome bas-reliefs, establish a new field of exploration for Marcin Rusak Studio studio.
The objects from the Tephra series are made using natural components sealed with a protective layer of resin and metal. However, occasional irregularities may occur as part of the metallisation process, revealing underlying organic elements. These should be treated as an individual specificity of each object.
The piece will be shipped in a museum-quality wooden fumigated crate suitable for airfreight.
