Baroque table hand-made and hand-carved in Italy or Spain in the mid 1600s. I will be honest, this is a Spanish-style table but was bought in Italy, and when we think about the fact that half of Italy was under Spanish control in this period of time, it honestly could have been made in either place. To make a long story short: this is a really cool, old table! And not for the faint of heart, because this baby is heavy! Firstly, the top is a single board about 1.5 inches thick made of solid walnut; by itself it weighs as much as I do after Christmas dinner at my nonna. The top is gorgeous, with beautiful marks made by time and usage, and has a gorgeous patina accumulated over the years. The apron is decorated on all sides by geometric carvings, found also on the drawers fronts. The table features two inset drawers with beautiful and large hand-made dovetail joints, secures with square nails (this is what makes me think it is an italian table). Now, the drawers are also ridiculously heavy, but thankfully can be taken out when you need to move this beast. The legs are hand-turned and decorated with simple carved horizontal lines and sit on bun feet. The table is finished with a box stretcher, which gives it a nice balance.
As you may have gathered from reading the description, this is a very well-built table that was made to last and can pretty much be your hiding spot in case of an earthquake. The table has a gorgeous patina, beautiful proportions and a lot of character given by the carvings. It is definitely a show stopper and will be a great addition in any household, regardless of the style of your current pieces. This is a timeless piece that will look great in any home.
