Silver 800 Baroque replica chocolate-pot
The torchon body is chiselled completely by hand.
Feet, spout, and lid are melted.
The transversal handle is of precious and shaped wood.
The chocolate pot came into use in the seventeenth century, when the pleasant and warm drink of hot chocolate (probably invented by nuns) spread in which the bitterness of the cocoa was corrected by the pleasantness of the milk and brown.
The first production of chocolatiers took place above all in France, Austria and Italy, both in porcelain painted with decorations of flowers, landscapes, chinoiserie, and in silver with engraved or relief motifs.
These objects, in silver, were very much produced in the Baroque period, with fluted, torchon or completely smooth motifs.
The handle was almost always transversal with a reverse screw, to ensure that when pouring the drink it “screwed” and there was no danger of spilling the liquid on the tablecloth or on the table top.
