A Wonderful 18th Century Elm Bacon Settle of Outstanding Figure and Unusual Form.
This settle is of a type known as a “bacon settle” and has a very tall back which incorporates shallow hanging cupboard space. There is a smaller upper cupboard and then a larger cupboard in the main portion of the back of the settle. There is also a chest built in to the seat. The back and sides have finely made fielded panels. There are brass escutcheon plates, handles and swivelling locks to the cupboards. The elm used is of excellent quality and has a wonderful coloured patina attained over time. The scrolling arm supports are carved and turned.
